 Plasma cutting (plasma arc cutting) is a melting process in which a jet of ionized gas at temperatures above 20,000°C is used to melt and expel material from the cut. During the method, an electrical arc is struck between an electrode (cathode) and therefore the workpiece (anode). The electrode is recessed during a water- or air-cooled gas nozzle which constricts the arc causing the narrow, heat, high-velocity plasma jet to make.

How Plasma Cutter Works?

How To Use Plasma Cutter?

  1. Connect your plasma cutter to a suitable air compressor.
  2. Connect your plasma cutter to a 240V or 415V supply (depending on the machine purchased).
  3. Connect the earth lead to your workpiece.
  4. Connect your plasma cutting torch to the plasma cutting machine.
  5. Select your cutting amperage (more amps for thicker materials).
  6. Press the switch on your torch handle and move the torch across the work as the plasma arc cuts the metal.

How Much a Plasma Cutter Costs?

The Best Plasma cutters are generally priced higher when it can produce a higher number of amps, but that isn’t always the case. You can get some of the best plasma cutters under 500 dollars. Some Entry-level plasma cutters will generally make a 0.25 inch (12mm) cut and pricing begin at $225. In the 0.25 inch to a 0.5-inch cutting range, there are several models that are in the $300-$400 range. If you need to cut through a 1-inch piece of metal, you may see prices in the $1,500-$2,000 range.
